A postdoctoral position is available to understand molecular arms races between cellular restriction factors and their viral antagonists using biochemical and structural approaches. Areas of interest include the mechanisms by which the lentiviral Vif protein neutralizes host APOBEC3 family members; how Vif conformational dynamics are coupled to its antagonistic activity; and ‘drugging’ Vif to unleash the restriction potential of A3 family members via targeted protein degradation strategies. Candidates should have or expect a Ph.D. in molecular biophysics, biochemistry, or chemical biology. Individuals interested in working at the interface of innate immunity, viral evolution, and drug discovery, with backgrounds in either quantitative biochemistry of RNA-binding proteins or structural biology (cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, or NMR spectroscopy) are encouraged to apply.
